Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Testing
Posted 11/4/21

The district provides a special program for students who are intellectually gifted.  Students in grades 1-7 who perform extremely well on the district-administered Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) and other standardized measurements may qualify for identification for our Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program.

Universal First Grade GATE testing requires three sittings and will occur for all first-grade students in their classroom on January 25, 26 & 27, 2022, 9:00-10:00 AM.  Parents of first graders may opt-out of GATE testing by completing an Opt-Out form by December 10, 2021.

If you believe your 2nd-7th grade child may be a candidate and you would like your child to participate in GATE testing, you must complete our GATE Assessment Consent form by December 10, 2021.  Testing for grades 2-7 will be scheduled at the District Office on Thursday afternoons (Practice Test) and Saturdays (Test), from January 20 - February 5, 2022.  Testing is conducted in groups by grade level.  We will adhere to all district-adopted Covid-19 safety measures when testing.  You will be provided with your child’s testing schedule prior to winter break.

Students who qualify for placement in the GATE program will be placed in the fall of the 2022-23 school year.  District policy allows students to be assessed a total of two times between grades 1-7. You may consult with your child's teacher to see if this would be an appropriate time to have your child assessed.   The final decision of when to test will be at the parent’s discretion.

Please contact Debbie Bartlett in the GATE office at (714) 378-2036 with any questions you may have.

Last day to submit the GATE Assessment Consent form or Opt-Out form: Friday, December 10, 2021.
