HBCSD Announces New Principal for Hawes Elementary School

Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Fran Hansell as the new principal of Hawes Elementary School. The HBCSD Board of Trustees approved her selection at the June 10, 2025, Board meeting.

Dr. Hansell is an equity-centered leader and educator with more than 15 years of TK-8 principal experience. Most recently, she has served as an elementary school principal in Saddleback Valley Unified School District, where she led campus-wide initiatives focused on supportive learning environments, student leadership, and strong family partnerships.

Known for leading with authenticity and compassion, Dr. Hansell fosters a culture of belonging and engagement while maintaining high expectations for student success. She is committed to empowering students and staff through shared leadership and a focus on meaningful, high-impact learning.

Her experience includes implementing inclusive instructional models, guiding GATE and STEM initiatives, and leading the integration of innovative technologies and instruction. Dr. Hansell also brings a strong background in general and special education, making her well-prepared to support the diverse needs of the Hawes community.

Dr. Hansell holds an Educational Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from the University of Massachusetts Global (formerly Brandman University), a Master of Science in Special Education and Master of Arts in Human Behavior from National University, and a Bachelor of Education from Worcester University. She is actively involved in statewide and national professional organizations, including the ACSA Council for Elementary Education and the NAESP National Advisory Council.
