Literacy is a cornerstone of learning in HBCSD, and events like Seacliff Elementary’s Read & Reuse Market bring that priority to life in joyful and meaningful ways.
Last week, students explored an incredible selection of more than 1,500 pre-loved books, puzzles, games, and school spirit wear—thanks to generous donations from Seacliff families, staff, and even from Sowers Middle School students. Sowers' ASB (Associated Student Body) launched a special campaign to collect higher-level books for Sea Star readers, exemplifying cross-school collaboration supporting literacy.
The market allowed students to practice budgeting, learn about sustainability, and build their home libraries. Items were affordably priced from 50 cents to just a few dollars, and every student was invited to select one book for free, ensuring everyone could take home something special. The excitement on students’ faces as they discovered hidden treasures was a heartwarming reminder of the power of reading and the impact of community.
